OUT OF THE ASHES!

Cast your minds back to a cold November evening, the Haddenham Villagers out in force and a spectacular firework display in memory of David Fairchild.

Billed as the last firework display, a small group of Haddenham residents were disappointed that it would be the last one and decided to get together to see if something could be done to carry on the tradition of the Village bonfire and firework night.

So risen from the ashes is the new Haddenham Bonfire Committee.  They will be continuing the previous great work of the outgoing committee.

Many thanks to all those on the outgoing committee, and all those who have previously helped in any capacity, for your years of excellent work in putting on such fantastic displays.

It costs around £3500 to stage such a brilliant spectacle, so watch out for fundraising events over the coming months.  If anyone is interested in helping with fundraising please get in touch at hadboncom@aol.com.  If any local businesses are interested in sponsoring us, no matter how big or small a donation, again please get in touch.  Previous income generators such as the Blossoms and Bygones barbecue are no longer happening so we would appreciate any donations.

Finally please please put Friday 6 November in your diaries and come and support us, rain or shine, so we can make it another bonfire night to remember.

Long live the Guy

No Annual General Meeting this year as we will not need to elect officers or committee members.  Instead we held a Special General Meeting on 26 November 2014...

We were pleasantly surprised to see several new people; in fact we had to get more chairs out.

The usual formal agenda items were quickly dispatched until item 10: Dissolution of HBC.

The fresh faces had other ideas!  It quickly became apparent that they were keen to keep the bonfire and fireworks tradition alive, so after some discussion about logistics, money and equipment, a brand new Committee was elected.

Some of the old committee were sufficiently inspired by the new blood that they decided to stay on.

We now have a new Committee of keen young villagers and experienced members to carry the tradition forward - no doubt with some fresh new ideas.  Watch this space...

Bonfire Night 7 Nov 2014 - first (unofficial) photos

The weather (always the weather!) cleared from a wet and blustery afternoon into a balmy still evening: Perfect for family fireworks.

As we set up in the afternoon it looked as though the tents would go off on their own - indeed the firework team's tent did just that - but the food tents were better behaved, and provided shelter for most of the top field team while two hardy souls braved the rain to get the safety fence in place.

When the gate opened at 6:30 there was a dribble of spectators, but as 7:15 drew nearer the Gate Guys were pretty well inundated.  For the first time we actually counted heads - not easy at times, such was the press down Chewells Lane.

More than 880 adults and children eventually found space to stand and watch a brilliant start to the bonfire, followed by another spectacular display of fireworks.
Thank you all so much for supporting us - especially as it was not certain that the weather would improve.

We hope you are pleased you came!

Harnwells did a roaring trade selling food and the Committee was kept busy supplying drinks all evening.

There will be another posting as soon as I receive the name and photo of the Guy winner, plus some better photos from Peter: So please do visit this site again in the next couple of days.

Meanwhile thanks to all the volunteers who worked hard to make this tribute to David Fairchild such a success.
